Two recently published papers discuss how the blockchain technology can be applied in environmental policies.  The papers argue that blockchain can decentralize and deburocratize the water governance.
The papers were written by Ranulfo Paiva Sobrinho, Junior Garcia, Alexandre Gori Maia and Ademar Romeiro. The first paper, published at the Braziian Journal of Innovation, advocated that the blockchain technology could be used to offset some main limitations of water resources management policies, such as the lack of transparency, financing and trust. The second paper, published at the journal Estudos Avançado, proposed a policy of Payment for Ecosystem Services in the Jundiaí River basin based on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
