Alexandre Gori Maia is a a Full Professor at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). He is a specialist in econometrics and development economics. His research focuses on evaluating causal relationships in economic demography, agricultural and environmental economics.
He coordinates two ongoing projects funded by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). The first evaluates how health crises affect reproductive behavior, a collaboration with research coordinated by Leticia Marteleto at the University of Pennsylvania. The second explores the use of social platforms to understand socioeconomic behavior. He has also collaborated with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) to evaluate the impact of policies on agricultural development.
He holds a Ph.D. diploma in Applied Economics from UNICAMP in 2007, an M.S. in Development Economics from UNICAMP in 2003, and B.S. in Statistics from UNICAMP in 1996. His PhD dissertation received the Brazilian CAPES Thesis Award in Economics in 2007. He was also honored with the UNICAMP Academic Recognition Award in 2024 for excellence in academic research and the Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2016 for dedication to undergraduate studies.
